Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can my Ariat boots be resoled?

Yes, we can have your Ariat boots resoled as long as they were purchased through Bob Mickler's. Ariat will replace all components with original Ariat soles, insoles, and laces to rebuild your boots to "like-new" condition. You must have a proof of purchase and the boots need to be cleaned with soap and water before they are returned. If in Lexington, bring them by our store, If out of state, call us at 1-800-443-6824 with any questions. This policy does not apply if the product has been damaged by misuse, lack of care, accident or unauthorized repair.

2. My waxed Barbour jacket is dry and needs repairs. Does Barbour offer a reproofing and repair service?

Barbour does offer a comprehensive reproofing, repair and alteration service. To take advantage of Barbour's reproofing and repair service, you can return it directly to Bob Mickler's. Simply tell us what you want done to the jacket. Prices will be quoted when Barbour receives the jacket and we will give you an estimated delivery date via the internet once we have received the quote. We recommend that you pay for postal insurance when you return your garment to us. (From your Post Office). If any more questions please call us at 1-800-443-6824.

3. I have had my riding helmet for many years. How can I tell if it is safe?

All approved safety helmets must say SEI and ASTM on the inside of the helmet. Bob Mickler's strongly recommends the wearing of a properly fitted ASTM/SEI certified equestrian helmet with the harness secured during equestrian activities. Properly fitted ASTM/SEI certified helmets can prevent death and reduce the severity of head injuries sustained while riding. If your helmet is more than 7 years old it probably has been compromised and needs replacing.

4. Sometimes my helmet rocks back and forth. How do I know if it fits properly?

Fitting is extremely important and each helmet does fit differently. Bob Mickler's is a trained retailer and we will be able to help you choose the right model and make any necessary adjustments. The helmet should be a snug fit when new, as it does mould to the shape of your head. A helmet should never rock backwards and forwards excessively. A correctly styled helmet will enhance your riding profile, and different styles have been developed for each riding discipline.

5. My boyfriend invited me to go fox hunting with him this fall. What is the proper fox hunting attire?

Your local hunt may do things differently, so it's best to check with a member on these kinds of things. Generally there are two types of fox hunting attire, informal and formal. If you are hunting during the autumn hunt season (cub hunting) informal dress is usually worn. Women wear a tweed hacking jacket, buff or tan breeches, shirt and colored tie or ratcatcher shirt with collar and stock pin, tattersall or canary vest, brown leather gloves, brown or black field boots, and a black safety hunt cap.

6. What is the difference between informal fox hunting attire and formal fox hunting attire?

Again, it is best to check with your local hunt club. Formal attire is a bit more complex. If you are hunting in the field, meaning you are not part of the hunt staff, a black heavy twill wool or black Melton coat is necessary. It should have plain black buttons and be worn with buff or tan (never white) breeches, a white shirt, a white stock tie with a plain gold pin worn horizontally, canary vest with plain brass buttons, black dress boots without tops, black or white string gloves, and a safety approved black helmet.
